Klipspringer captures NJSS Final; Teague trainees sweep Niatross

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – July 22, 2005 – Klipspringer captured the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final and stablemates swept both divisions of the Niatross on Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Klipspringer [$10.00, $6.40, $5.20] scored a length and a quarter victory over a rail skimming Wherley [$15.00, $7.20] in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final for two-year-old trotting fillies, the featured seventh race, covering the mile in 1:57.3. Color Schemes [$8.40] was third by a length and three-quarters.

Western Ace, driven by Ron Pierce, captured the 1st division of the Niatross by two and three-quarter-lengths over Artstanding in a lifetime best of 1:52.3.

It was Klipspringer’s second win in three starts. The daughter of Banker Hall – Jungle Queen, driven by David Miller and trained by Jonas Czernyson, races for Menhammar Stuteri of New Canaan, Connecticut.

Both $67,450 divisions of the Niatross for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings were won by trainees from the barn of George Teague, best known for his success with 2004 Horse of the Year Rainbow Blue.

In the first division, the sixth race, Western Ace [$3.60, $2.60, $2.20], driven by Ron Pierce, withstood a strong closing effort by Artstanding [$3.40, $3.40] for a two and three-quarter-length victory in a lifetime best of 1:52.3. It was three lengths to Park And Madison [$3.60] in third.

Western Ace, a son of Western Ideal, posted his fourth win in five starts. The colt has now earned $152,402 for Teague Inc of Houston, Delaware, and Kovack Stables of Milford, Delaware.

In the second division Total Truth (2) battled He’s Personal to the wire, getting up for a nose victory in a stakes record 1:51.4.

In the second division, the eighth race, Total Truth [$6.80, $2.60, $2.80] battled He’s Personal [$2.80, $3.40] to the wire, getting up for a nose victory in a stakes record 1:51.4.

Mr Thirty Two [$3.60] was third by three lengths.

Total Truth, driven by Ron Pierce, now has two wins and a second in three starts. The son of Jenna’s Beach Boy is owned by Teague and J. Patrick Callahan of Hartly, Delaware.

Total Truth snapped the stakes record of 1:52 held by Storm Island since 2000.
