Lady London sets track record for mares at Buffalo

Hamburg, NY- Lady London was the fabulous female on Wednesday night (May 1) in Buffalo Raceway’s $10,500 Class A Open Handicap pace for the fillies and mares as she broke two track records in going the mile in 1:53.2.

Driven by Billy Davis Jr., Lady London ($3.30) eclipsed the all-age mark for the distaff pacers of 1:53.3 set in 2015 by Mosquito Blue Chip and also established a new standard for the aged (5+) mare pacers of 1:53.3 registered in 2018 by Sportsmuffler. And to put an exclamation point on the night, it was a lifetime best.

“I just stepped on it with her when (Kevin Cummings) came up behind me with You Mach Me Crazy at the three-quarter pole,” Davis Jr. said about the record breaking journey aboard Lady London.

He went on to say, “I thought it (the track record) was 1:53.1. I never asked her until the last eighth of a mile. She had plenty left in the tank.”

With a fast track and the temperature at nearly 80 degrees, it was the perfect recipe for some speedy efforts.

Scoring from the inside, Lady London set sail and rocketed out to fractions of :28.1, :56.3 and 1:25.4. Any thoughts of the field catching her were quickly doused as Lady London used a final panel of :27.3 to dispose of Little Joke (Shawn McDonough), who finished 2-3/4 lengths behind, and You Mach Me Crazy.

Owned by Vhf Racing and trained by Sabrina Clevenger, it was the second victory in eight tries for Lady London (Big Jim-Maddam Luck). The six-year-old mare has now produced $16,338 in earnings this season and $70,626 lifetime.

Billy Davis Jr., Ray Fisher Jr. and Kevin Cummings all had driving doubles on the evening.

Racing will continue on Friday night (May 3) with a nine-race card slated to begin at 5 p.m. On Saturday (May 4), Buffalo Raceway will present an 11-race program that has a special 7:15 p.m. post to accommodate the running of the Kentucky Derby.
