Lady Shadow and Muscle Babe deliver SBOA glory

Campbellville, ON — Heavily favored Lady Shadow, driven by Doug McNair, captured this year’s C$159,287 Standardbred Breeders of Ontario Association final for 3-year-old pacing fillies as the speedy lass got under the wire in 1:51.4 on Saturday (May 31) at Mohawk.

McNair and Lady Shadow were quickest to the front in the early stages, but allowed Lady Jake (Jody Jamieson) to take command before the opening quarter in :26.4.

Heading towards the half, McNair and Lady Shadow regained the front and laid down panels of :56 and 1:24.3 en route to a 2-1/4 length victory. Badlyinclined (Jack Moiseyev) came first over to finish second with Artful Impulse (Randy Waples) third.

Trained by McNair’s father, Gregg, for owners Lindsey and Connie Rankin, Lady Shadow increased her bankroll to C$287,443. The pacing miss banked just shy of C$200,000 last year. She paid $2.40 to win.

No eliminations were necessary in this year’s edition with eight fillies going postward.

Muscle Babe flawless in SBOA filly trot

Muscle Babe, driven by James MacDonald, delivered a stakes record performance in this year’s C$178,287 Standardbred Breeders of Ontario Association final for 3-year-old filly trotters with a sizzling 1:54 victory.

After capturing last week’s elimination, Muscle Babe enjoyed a new career best as her bankroll now sits at C$137,563.

MacDonald and Muscle Babe led gate-to-wire through panels of :26.4, :56.4 and 1:26, before edging away from her rivals in deep stretch to win by four lengths. Both Danica (Chris Christoforou) and Miss Liv finished second in a dead-heat.

Trained by Dave Menary for owner Kjell Magne Anderson, the daughter of Muscle Mass has crafted a 2-0-0 record from three starts this season. She paid $9.10 to win.
