Larry Fry, 72, dies

Columbus, OH — Larry W. Fry, 72, of Newport, Pa., died April 7, 2011, at his home.

Born April 19, 1938 in New Bloomfield, he was the son of the late Frank L. Sr. and Katharine Shatto Fry.

Mr. Fry was a retired real estate agent for Green Acres Realty and was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, New Bloomfield. He was a 1956 graduate of the former Perry Joint High School and attended Shippensburg University.

He was a life member of the Newport Fire Co., the New Bloomfield Sportsmen’s Association, and the Social Order of Owls of Newport (where he served as president for 12 years). He was also a member of the Penn State Alumni Association, American Legion Post 177 of Newport, VFW Post 7463 of New Bloomfield, Loyal Order of Moose International and the Air Force Reserve, where he played in the 553rd Air Force Band.

He loved horses and harness racing and owned and raced horses since 1962. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association, Cloverleaf Standardbred Owners Association, the National Harness Horsemen’s Association, and the United States Trotting Association. He was licensed as an owner in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey.

Mr. Fry is survived by his wife of 51-1/2 years, Shirley; brothers, John (Phoebe), Dale (Barbara) and David (Arlene); sister-in-law, Faye; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank L. Jr.
