Last call for April 15 stakes payments

The April 15 deadline is drawing near for many stakes payments. Below are a list of notices that have been submitted to the USTA Newsroom.

City Of London stakes payment reminder

London, ON — Western Fair Raceway reminds horse people of the April 15 deadline for The City Of London Pacing and Trotting Series. A C$300 nomination fee is payable April 15 to keep horses eligible.

The series are for Ontario-sired horses that are 4-year-olds and younger and non-winners of C$10,000 as of April 1, 2010. The schedule for both pacers and trotters is as follows:

First Leg: Friday, May 14-C$7,500 per division; Second Leg: Friday, May 21-C$7,500 per division; Final: Friday, May 28-C$40,000 added.

Payments due on Scioto Downs series events

Columbus, OH — Scioto Downs offers seven series events for both trotters and pacers this season with nominating payments due on April 15. Most events are named in honor of famous horses from Ohio harness racing history.

For pacing females, Scioto offers the Stienam and Floating Dream while males can enter the Steaming Demon, Falcon Almahurst, and Billy Dart series. The Dream Of Glory is for trotters.

Scioto also has scheduled a Columbus Claiming Series for $4,000 claiming pacers (with allowances).

All series events at Scioto in 2010 will go with three legs and a final. For full conditions, see the Scioto Downs Web site at www.sciotodowns.com.

Also, payments to the Ohio State Fair Stakes and the Ohio Breeders Stakes, both of which are contested at Scioto, are due on April 15.

Indiana Downs payments due

Shelbyville, IN — Sustaining payments for the Monument Circle, Oliver Trotting Classic, and the Circle City for 2-year-olds are due Thursday, April 15, and must be postmarked on or before April 15.

Ohio Sire Stakes payments due April 15

Columbus, OH — Sustaining payments for the Ohio Sires Stakes must be postmarked by April 15.

If you wait until the 15th, please make sure you see your post office stamp the envelope because any envelopes postmarked after April 15 cannot be accepted.

Tioga and Vernon’s April payments due

Nichols, NY — The Kindergarten Trotting Classic requires a $500 sustaining payment and the Bettor’s Delight, Artiscape, Credit Winner and Conway Hall all require a sustaining payment of $2,000, postmarked by April 15.

The Tioga Downs slate of Late Closing events has an April 15 close as well.

Champion of Champions sustaining payments due April 15

Toledo, OH — Sustaining payments for the third annual Champion of Champions Fair Finals at Raceway Park are due postmarked by April 15.

The sustaining fee is $100 per horse.

Bobby Quillen Memorial payment due April 15

Harrington, DE — The $1,000 nomination payment for the fourth annual Bobby Quillen Memorial at Harrington Raceway is fast approaching and due April 15.

Normally held in October, Harrington’s signature race will be contested in September this year with eliminations occurring on September 13 and finals the following Monday, September 20. The race is held for pacers ages 3 and up and was won in 2009 by Won The West. There is only one nominating payment to the race, which is followed by a $2,500 starting fee upon entry.

WEG major stakes payment reminder

Toronto, ON — The Woodbine Entertainment Group would like to remind all owners, horsemen and women, that Thursday, April 15, is the deadline for sustaining payments that are due for the circuit’s major stake events.

Also, the 3-year-old Ontario sired fillies have the final sustaining payment for the 2010 WEG SBOS (SBOA) event.

Envelopes must be clearly post-marked no later than the said due date or payment will not be accepted. Registered mail is recommended.

NJSS payments due April 15 for eligibility to 2010 races

Trenton, NJ — April 15 is the last chance to keep New Jersey-sired 2-year-old and 3-year-old pacers and trotters eligible to the 2010 N.J. Sire Stakes Premier and Green Acres pari-mutuel racing programs.

The NJSS Premier Division begins in May at the Meadowlands and in August at Freehold Raceway. The Green Acres Division begins in August at Freehold.

Due to a change in the racing schedule at the Meadowlands, the first leg of the New Jersey Sire Stakes Premier Division for 2-year-old trotting fillies has been changed from Sunday, June 20, to Thursday, June 24. The complete NJSS racing schedule and estimated purses for 2010 can be found at www.newjerseysirestakes.com.

Due on April 15 are $150 Green Acres Division payments for 2-and 3-year-olds, $550 Premier Division payments for 2-year-olds and $650 Premier Division payments for 3-year-olds. This second sustaining payment must be made in order to keep horses eligible for all 2010 NJSS races.

Horse owners are urged to use certified mail. No billing notices are sent and no late payments will be accepted. Checks should be made payable in U.S. funds to NJSS, P.O. Box 330, Trenton, NJ 08625.

NYSS payments due April 15

Albany, NY — New York Sire Stakes officials remind horsemen that sustaining payments are due Thursday, April 15. These payments are required to remain eligible to race in the 2010 NYSS season.

Checks or money orders must be in US funds, postmarked by April 15, and made payable to the Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund. Mail to 90 State Street, Suite 809, Albany, NY 12207.

The NYSS 2010 April Payments are per horse and are as follows:

Two-Year-Old Payments
Sire Stakes: $350
State Fair: $200
County Fair: $75

Three-Year-Old Payments
Sire Stakes: $450
State Fair: $250 (Fillies)
State Fair: $350 (Colts)
County Fair: $75
