Last call for NYSS new owner seminar

from the Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund

Latham, NY — The New York Sire Stakes will host a seminar for new and prospective Standardbred horse owners at the Harness Racing Museum on Sunday (June 10) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Participants are invited to gather at 9 a.m. for a tour of the Goshen Historic Track backstretch, paddock and stables before two informational panel discussions led by industry veterans.

New owners will have the opportunity to attend two panels throughout the morning on topics relating to Standardbred ownership, including types of ownership, the risks and rewards of owning a Standardbred racehorse, training costs, vet bills, tax issues/incentives, and racehorse aftercare.

“We are excited to offer this opportunity to introduce and educate potential new owners on the ins-and-outs of owning a Standardbred racehorse in a qualified environment with experienced Standardbred professionals,” said M. Kelly Young, executive director, Agriculture & New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund. “Owning a horse can be fun and rewarding, but it is a big step and no one should go in blind. We want to serve as a resource for first-time Standardbred owners and make the process of getting involved in this industry as easy as possible.”

Following the panels, all participants are invited to stay for lunch and live racing at Goshen Historic Track, hosted by the Agriculture and New York State Horse Breeding Development Fund. There is no cost to this program, but reservations are requested to ensure sufficient materials are available. To RSVP for this event, please contact Angie McGrath at amcgrath@caphill.com or call 518.694.5002. The Harness Racing Museum is located at 240 Main Street, Goshen, N.Y.
