Last call for Pompano Park stall applications

by John Berry, for Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Stall applications for the 2013-2014 racing meet at Pompano Park are due no later than Sept. 10.

John Yinger, Director of Racing, is very optimistic about the upcoming season, which begins Oct. 5 and continues through May 17, 2014.

“We are bulging at the seams with stall applications for our 50th anniversary season. With reduced stall rent, a bump in purses and a strong late closing program, it is very doubtful that we will have any open stalls when we kick off our season. We are seeing interest from some very strong racing stables and I expect the racing to be very competitive and exciting for our racing fans.”

Pompano Park’s late closing events, which begin in mid-November, cover both claiming events and conditioned events and feature two legs and a final featuring added money. All events have a very “affordable” nominating fee.

Yinger continued, “The late closing claiming events cover the gamut with races beginning for $6,000 claimers and going up the ladder encompassing eights, tens and fifteens. The conditioned events are for younger horses that are non-winners of four extended pari-mutuel races or $30,000 lifetime.

“Another added twist in the claiming events is that we’ll have escalating claiming prices throughout the series with a no claiming clause for the final.”
