Leroy Amos, 64, dies

Columbus, OH — Leroy Amos, 64, of Navarre, Ohio, died Nov. 28, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio, from complications of a massive stroke.

Born Dec. 19, 1949, in Canton, he was the son of the late Blair and Venus Meyers Amos. He graduated from Tusky Valley High School in 1967 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a sergeant in the Army.

Mr. Amos spent his career in agriculture and focused his trade as a skilled farrier and blacksmith. His passion was Standardbreds, which he bred, raised and raced over a span of 30 years.

In 1986, he authored Limbs of the Equine, which is still being circulated across academia and horse people globally.

Outside of his career, he spent countless hours as a leader and volunteer in various national and local horse associations.

Mr. Amos is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy Troutman Amos; sons, Tyler (Lisa), Travis (Brandi) and Seth; grandchildren, Collin Lang, Kate, Cohen and Niall; sister, Barb (Rudy) Horvat; mother-in-law, Vivian Troutman; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Diana and Doug O’Meara; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, John Fabynick. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas; father-in-law, William Troutman; and brother-in-law, Stephen Troutman.

Continuing Mr. Amos’ giving spirit, he was an eye and tissue donor.

Funeral services will be Wednesday (Dec. 3) at 10 a.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on South Cleveland Ave. with Pastor Barbara Ross officiating. Interment in Ft. Laurens Cemetery, Bolivar. Friends may call Tuesday (Dec. 2) from 5-8 p.m.
