Lexington Selected Yearling Sale maintains positive numbers

by David Carr, the U.S. Trotting Association

Lexington, KY — The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale completed on Wednesday (Oct. 7) the third of its five evening sessions, maintaining its growth in average price compared to last year’s auction. The 409 yearlings to have walked through the sales ring have commanded final bids totaling $24,543,000, an average price of $60,007. This is 2.8 percent higher than the average through three sessions in 2014.

As with the previous day, the year-to-year comparisons of sessions two and three have resulted in a virtual tie. The 157 yearlings selling on Wednesday sold for an average price of $32,981, compared to the third session average of $33,061 in 2014.

The sale topper on Wednesday at $160,000, and the only six-figure horse in the session, was Southwind Avanti, by Muscle Hill out of Auvergne. This filly’s pedigree contains lots of top performers on both sides of the Atlantic, most notably Moni Maker. The buyer was Swedish agent Robert Lindstrom, no stranger to high-priced trotting yearlings. Preferred Equine Marketing, Inc. consigned the filly as agent for Southwind Farms.

Muscle Hill swept the top three positions for the night, with runner-up Miami selling for $90,000. The colt’s dam, Arlanda Hanover, earned more than $400,000. Diamond Creek Farm consigned Miami, who was purchased by Van Camp Trotting Corp.

Rounding out the top three was the trotting colt Party Hard, going for $85,000 to Staffan Lind. Al Libfeld, Marvin Katz, and Sam Goldband own the dam Victory Bouquet, and Kentuckiana Farms consigned the colt on their behalf.

The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale continues each evening at 7 p.m. through Friday at the Fasig-Tipton Sale Arena.
