Lis Mara to stand at Kentuckiana Farms of Ontario

from Kentuckiana Farms

Lexington, KY — Kentuckiana Farms is excited to announce that last season’s Older Pacer of the Year in both Canada and the United States, Lis Mara (b,h, 2002), by Cambest out of Lisheen, by Abercrombie, will stand the 2008 breeding season at Kentuckiana Farms of Ontario, located at Emerald Ridge Farm of Rockwood, Ontario.

Kentuckiana Farms will serve as syndicate manager and along with Emerald Ridge Farm will manage his breeding career. Lis Mara, who will retire at the end of the current racing season, is a two-time world champion with career earnings of $2,070,876 and a lifetime mark of 1:47.3.

In 2006, Lis Mara, who was also a stakes winner at 3 in 2005, burst onto the FFA scene by winning $967,485 and being named O’Brien, Dan Patch, and Nova Older Pacer of the Year. Lis Mara won the elimination and final of the Breeders Crown, the Canadian Pacing Derby final and the Des Smith Memorial. His 2006 world record Breeders Crown win (1:47.3) was the fastest mile in the history of that prestigious race.

This year, Lis Mara has followed up his championship 2006 season by earning $922,855 while becoming the first horse in 20 years to defend his Canadian Pacing Derby title. In 2007, Lis Mara has also won a Canadian Pacing Derby elimination, Graduate Series final, William Haughton Memorial elimination (world record 1:47.4), Ben Franklin Pace elimination, and a leg of the Classic Series.

As significant as Lis Mara’s stakes victories is his ability to consistently demonstrate extreme speed. Lis Mara’s three 1:48 or faster wins are more than any horse in harness racing history as are his 16 career sub-1:50 wins. Lis Mara’s streak of 14 consecutive sub-1:50 miles is also the longest in the history of the sport.

Lis Mara, a striking individual, is a regally bred son of the fastest horse in harness racing history, Cambest, out of Lisheen, the $500,000 winning Abercrombie daughter of the Hall of Fame broodmare Lismore. Lis Mara is owned by MJG Racing Stables Inc. and Andy Willinger.

The 2008 service fee for Lis Mara will be C$7,000. Syndication plans are available upon request.
