Longshots capture Singer Memorial divisions at Big M

from the Meadowlands Media Relations Department

East Rutherford, NJ — One of harness racing’s best bets just got a lot better as the 50 cent Pick-5 at the Meadowlands will feature a carryover of $19,974.41 into the Friday program. This is the third time this season the Pick-5 has not had a successful winning ticket containing all five winners.

A pair of 30-1 longshots in the second round of the Charles Singer Memorial Trot were the cause of the Pick-5 carryover.

No Less Than Magic was a 1:55.3 winner for driver Pat Lachance.

In the first division, No Less Than Magic with Pat Lachance at the lines worked out a smart cover trip and wore down Where To Hanover in the stretch, scoring in 1:55.3 and paying $62.80 to win. Both favorites, Sequin Hanover and Windsun Galliano, went off-stride in the mile.

No Less Than Magic is a 4-year-old Kadabra-Soutaine Hanover gelding trained by Nifty Norman for owners Melvin Hartman, Herb Liverman and David McDuffee.

The second $15,000 division featured an upset to the tune of a $69.00 winner in the form of Volare De Vie. Favored Real Babe never saw the pylons throughout the mile and just got tired in the stretch, while second choice Helios made a break nearing the top of the stretch.

Driven by Jim Meittinis for trainer Henrik Lundell and owner Joie De Vie Farm, Volare De Vie scored in 1:55.1 by 2-1/2 lengths over Pittstop Ruthie. The winner is a 4-year-old Yankee Glide-Only Dreaming gelding.

These results not only setup the Pick-5 carryover, but a very interesting Charles Singer final next Saturday.

The Yannick Gingras and Ron Burke show continued Thursday night as the dynamic duo teamed up for three wins, all in the Winter Survivor Series as Boiler Bob The QB, Killer Quakes and Oil Magnet all scored. Gingras will have a tough choice in the final of the Survivor Series as Burke will have a very strong handle.

Post time for the Friday program is 7:15 p.m. That card features the first round of the Junior Trendsetter Series, which was cancelled due to the blizzard last Friday. The $19,974 Pick-5 carryover kicks off the card in race one.
