Louis Grasso sentenced to 50 months, $47M in restitution

Columbus, OH — The Thoroughbred Daily News has reported that veterinarian Louis Grasso was sentenced Tuesday (Nov. 15) to 50 months in prison and has been ordered to pay over $47 million in restitution for his role in a horse doping ring.

Grasso, who pleaded guilty to one count of drug adulteration and misbranding conspiracy for his role in distributing illegal drugs to harness racing trainers, was among those indicted in a 2020 sting and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel on Tuesday in New York City.
