by Carol Hodes, for the SBOA of New Jersey

Freehold, NJ — Lou’s Legacy rallied in the stretch and drew off to a 2-1/2 length victory in the $85,000 Harold Dancer Memorial Open Trot, the featured sixth race on Wednesday, September 17, at Freehold Raceway.

The Harold Dancer Memorial Open Trot for 2-year-olds by New Jersey-based stallions is sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey.

Lou’s Legacy, bred and owned by Mal and Janet Burroughs LLC, covered the mile in 2:00.1 and returned $6.40, $3.20, and $4.80.

The first three finishers were all first crop sons of the ill-fated Triple Crown winner Windsong’s Legacy, who died earlier this year.

Lou’s Legacy, who is out of the Meadow Road mare Lady Love McBur, improved his record to three wins and two seconds in five starts and lifted his earnings to $57,500.

Jim Marshall III was in the sulky behind the Chuck Sylvester trainee.

Holding on for second was Mystro Hanover, who paid $4.60 and $4.60. It was three lengths back to Vesuvio AS, who returned $7.40 in third.
