Lubbock was a 1:54.2 winner in the Hiram Woodruff Series on Thursday.
Bet down to 2-5 by the wagering public, The Chancellor (Andy Miller) brushed to the lead at the :56.4 half-mile marker and was in control of the 11-horse field at the 1:25.1 three-quarter pole.
However, The Chancellor went off stride in the stretch and that allowed driver Ron Pierce to rally Lubbock to a half-length victory in a time of 1:54.2. The Chancellor held on for second while Mr Cantab (George Brennan) finished third.
Trained by Nat Varty, Lubbock is a 5-year-old Angus Hall-Luby gelding who posted his sixth win in 11 season’s starts, while lifting his 2009 earnings to $49,588.
Despite setting a personal best of 1:53.4 in winning a division of the Hiram Woodruff opener a week ago, Lubbock still rewarded his backers with an $18.20 win mutuel.
