Lunar finds nary a crater, springs 11-1 upset in Meadows top pace

Washington, PA — Lunar explored the landscape on the front end and found nary a crater as he pulled off an 11-1 upset in Friday’s (Feb. 9) $19,200 Open Handicap Pace at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Lunar was a 1:51.2 winner. Chris Gooden photo.

Hunter Myers sent Lunar to the top from post four. Once there, the 6-year-old Sweet Lou-Crescent City gelding easily turned back the late challenge from the pocket-sitting Duval Street and downed him by a length in 1:51.2. Sandbetweenmytoes was a ground-saving third.

Michael Burke trains Lunar, who lifted his lifetime bankroll to $115,819, for Burke Racing Stable, Phillip Collura, Knox Services Inc. and J&T Silva-Purnel & Libby.

Myers collected four wins on the 13-race card while Dave Palone and trainer Brandon Presto each enjoyed a triple.

Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday, first post 12:45 p.m.
