Machiatto A, Rich And Miserable win Sunday features at Tioga

Nichols, NY — Machiatto A (Jacob Cutting) and Rich And Miserable (Jim Taggart Jr.) captured the co-featured Open events at Tioga Downs on Sunday (July 31).

Machiatto A ($14.00) went from last to first to capture the $12,000 Open Pace.

Agedchedar Hanover (Wally Hennessey) went right to the front, but Rockin Jukebox (Aaron Byron) took over just before hitting the first quarter in :27.1. He pulled the pace back through a :56.3 half, but then accelerated to three-quarters in 1:23.4 as Kilowatt Kid N (Mike Simons) made a first-over move down the backstretch. As they made the turn for home, Kilowatt Kid N took over the lead, only for Machiatto A to come flying down the stretch and zoomed on by to win in a seasonal best of 1:52. Kilowatt Kid N had to settle for second. Rockin Jukebox finished third.

Machiatto A is a 9-year-old gelding by Mach Three owned by Steve Manzi and trained by Randy Taft. It was his sixth win this season and 31st career victory.

Rich And Miserable ($3.80) cruised to an easy win in the $12,000 Open Trot.

Rich And Miserable went straight to the front and controlled a :57.4 first half before Nextroundsonme (Mike Simons) came first-up heading for the final turn. Rich And Miserable maintained his lead to three-quarters in 1:26.1.

Around the final turn, Nextroundsonme and Rich And Miserable were shoulder to shoulder. As they reached the stretch, Rich And Miserable found another gear and won easily in 1:54.1. Golden Kronos (Wally Hennessey) finished second; Nextroundsonme had to settle for third.

Rich And Miserable is a 7-year-old gelding by Explosive Matter trained by Todd Buter for owners Buter Farm Inc., Lynette Buter, and William and Carol Fuhs. It was his third straight win at Tioga and his 39th career score.

Wally Hennessey drove four winners on the card: Magic MVP ($25.20), Full Support ($2.70), Alaskan Seelster ($4.60) and Joint Account ($3.40).
