Mare takes on male rivals at Pompano Park

by Steve Wolf, marketing director, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Track record holder Lori Louise, the lone mare racing against seven male rivals, is the 9-5 favorite to win the Open Handicap Trot at Pompano Park on Wednesday, September 28.

A winner in four of her last six starts, Lori Louise starts from the outside in post eight for driver Walter Ross, Jr. and last week just missed tying her own track mark by one-fifth of a second with a 1:55 triumph in this same class.

She will face another challenge from former track record holder Ultimate Sundance, who starts alongside Lori Louise in post seven for driver Bruce Ranger. Last week, in his first start since early August, Ultimate Sundance followed Lori Louise in second place the entire one mile race to finish second by one and three-quarter lengths. The ten-year-old gelding is the class of the field with $309,000 in career earnings.

Another return winner in the field is Wyatt from post two for driver Anthony Napolitano. The youngest member of the field at age four, Wyatt has won three of his last four starts.
