Lexington, KY — Marian Brewer, the widow of the late well-known equine artist Allen F. Brewer Jr., died Dec. 25, 2016, at Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs, Fla., with family by her side. She had resided in Apopka, Fla.

Since her husband’s passing in a plane crash in 1967, Mrs. Brewer worked tirelessly to preserve his memory and his legacy in the community of world-class equine artists.

Mrs. Brewer became involved in harness racing through her husband in the mid-1950s. Gibson White coached her to drive horses. She became an accomplished horsewoman. On Oct. 10, 1959, she drove Rodare to a 2:01.2 victory at The Red Mile, which was the fastest race mile ever by a female driver. Her first harness horse was Mary Mane, who was in foal at the time.

Many who knew Mrs. Brewer, and her husband, asked how they might contribute to the legacy of both Allen Brewer’s life-long endeavor for artistic excellence and his wife’s devotion to keeping a bright light forever illuminating his immense body of work. With that passion in mind, before her passing Mrs. Brewer formed an organization — Equi-Lith — whose sole purpose was to proliferate the works of Allen F. Brewer Jr. through exhibitions, art shows, and virtually any other venue.

For those who want to contribute, funds may be submitted to the Equi-Lith foundation using your PayPal account in the category of “friends and family” utilizing the e-mail address equilith@rocketmail.com.
