Mark Jones wins again in GLADA series

Hazel Park, MI — Another GLADA race in the books, another win notch on the driving lines for Mark Jones and his own Classic Spur.

Leaving from the nine hole on Monday (May 30) at Hazel Park was no problem for this dynamic driving duo and the winner claimed victory in 2.01 on the first really hot night of summer racing. Place honors went to Larry McCarty and last week’s winner, Little Ms Sunshine, and the show dough went to perennial track speedster Smokin Steven, driven by Steve Oldford.

As the gate folded, nine trotters ripped away in unison, leaving breakers Asti Asti, in rein to Mike Golden, and Benns Legacy, driven by Mike Sweeney, behind. Mike Caston made an amazing rush from the seven hole to claim the lead with R M Shy at the quarter in :28.2, followed by Little Ms Sunshine and Smokin Steven. Jones was in fourth place on his way to the top, and Hallway To Heaven with Bob Barella hung in there in fifth place.

A back downed second quarter found Little Ms Sunshine in the lead at :58.1, with R M Shy still trotting on the outside and Smokin Steven breathing fire on their heels.

At the top of the stretch, little had changed up front with McCarty in the lead and Classic Spur making the run to the top. As the camera flashed, Mark Jones was victorious in a stunning finish, as R M Shy tired and faded to eighth.

Competition is hot on Monday nights and next week offers new opportunities for more fine trotting at Hazel.
