Marty L. Brimmer, 55, dies

Columbus, OH — Marty L. Brimmer, 55, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at his home in Rome, Ohio after a two year battle with cancer.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1956, in Ottumwa, the son of Gilbert and Jean Marie Davis Brimmer. He was married to Lisa Boettger in October of 1981. He serviced his country in the Army and received an honorable discharge in Jan. 1977. He trained and raced horses and was a blacksmith in the Chicago area for a number of years. Marty raced horses in Iowa, Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, and New York. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife; his daughters, E.J (Brian) Murphy, Molly Brimmer and Natalie Brimmer, all of Rome; two granddaughters, his brothers and sisters, Dannie Brimmer of the Philippines, Wilma Griffin of Des. Moines, Allen Brimmer of Independence, Don Brimmer of Cedar Rapids, Willard Brimmer of Eldon, Ila Doud of Des. Moines and Dick Brimmer of Waterloo.
