Mary Margaret “Margo” Langley, 85, dies

Columbus, OH — Mary Margaret “Margo” Langley (nee Schrack), born May 26, 1937, in the quaint town Shillington, Pa., died Aug, 6, 2022.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phil Langley, she leaves behind a family and many friends who love her deeply, including her son, Peter (Patricia Tiernan), daughter, Margaret Langley Sakka, and her daughter, Kathrynne Saunders (Christopher). “Grammy” will also be lovingly remembered by grandchildren, Noura Ahern (David), Faris Sakka, Nadia Sakka, Ryan Saunders, and Cormac Saunders. She will also be remembered by family and friends through her great granddaughter, Amara Ahern, who shares Margo’s childhood nickname “Mar Mar.”

Many will remember Mrs. Langley as a wonderful teacher, having spent more than 30 years teaching French at Homewood Flossmoor High school. She followed in the footsteps of her parents, John and Florence Schrack, who were both teachers, and she passed this passion for education on to her family. Her love of French also went beyond the classroom, as she and Phil traveled to France as often as possible in their nearly 60 year marriage, where Margo especially loved visiting Musee D’Orsay, exploring small villages near the Alps, and people watching on the Metro.

Mrs. Langley lived a life filled with love; her husband cherished her, her children admired her, and her grandchildren adored her. She loved spending time with her friends in Bridge clubs, the Woman’s Club, and several different Birthday Clubs. She was an avid reader and a Scrabble and Words with Friends master. She was also a member of nearly 60 years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Park Forest.

She was open-minded and always willing to rethink the ways she saw the world. She was one of the sweetest people, but she also had a hilarious sassy side. She was deeply loved and will be forever cherished by loved ones.

The family will hold a joint Celebration of Life for Margo and Phil on Tuesday (Aug. 16) at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church inside Holy Family Episcopal Church, 102 Marquette St., Park Forest, Ill. A brunch will follow at Olympia Fields Country Club. Funeral arrangements handled by Kurtz Memorial Chapel, Frankfort, IL 60423, www.kurtzmemorialchapel.com, 815.806.2225.
