Mary Wohlmuth of The Meadows’ 2:00 Club Dies

Mary Manion Wohlmuth of Carnegie (Ewingville), Pennsylvania, died Friday, February 11, 2005, in her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Mrs. Wohlmuth was employed by Magna Entertainment and was chairman of the board of the 2:00 Club, where she directed many activities for the members and children. Her favorite event was the annual Chinese auction for charity. She was born July 10, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of former Carnegie Mayor Ernest (Ernie) Ewing and Catherine Cunningham Manion.

Mrs. Wohlmuth received a bachelor of arts degree in early childhood education from Duquesne University in 1951. She was an early childhood education teacher since 1951. She was owner of Ewing Hills Children’s Ranch and a former kindergarten teacher at Bower Hill and Henry Roberts schools in Chartiers Valley School District.

She was extremely active in harness racing at The Meadows, where her husband Joe was a trainer. On July 16, 1960, she married her beloved husband Joe, who survives. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Clara Wohlmuth, wife of the late Carl; a nephew, Mark Wohlmuth; a niece, Joanne Saylor (Greg); and her cousins.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, 724-941-3211. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 14, in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, St. Ignatius Church, Carnegie. Everyone is asked to meet at the church.
