Berlin, MD — The August Maryland 2-year-old Sire Stake finals were held on Sunday (Aug. 23) at Ocean Downs.

In the colt/gelding trot Speed It (Cam’s Rocket-Hypercast) swept both the prelim and the final of the August series over Sweeten Me Up (CR Renegade-Miadora) for owner-trainer-breeder Richard Hans. Driver Jim Morand was in the sulky for the 2:04 mile.

Star Rose (You Betcha–Ragland Road) redeemed herself in the filly trot division after finishing behind Rock The Game (Cam’s Rocket–Game Speed) in the prelim. Star Rose crossed the wire in 2:06.3 for driver Ray Robinson Jr. Star Rose is leased and trained by Syl King Jr. and bred by Meadow Creed Stables LLC.

After making some missteps in her filly pace prelim last week, Fastestgirlaround (Dontloseyourdayjob-Sand Calady) went to the front and never looked back in her 13 length victory for reinsman Frank Milby, stopping the clock in 1:59. Brian Callahan and Gloria Kinnamon co-own and Gloria is also the breeder. Mo Power (Capitol Power-Mystery Shadow) finished second with Little Bit Wild (Cam’s Rocket-Shaaga) up for third.

What I Say Goes (Cam’s Rocket-Look Sunder) took the colt and gelding pace in 2:01.4 for pilot Jonathan Roberts, giving owner-trainer-breeder Richard Hans his second stakes win on the card. Happy Hayward (Allie’s Western-Flannel Yankee) was up for place while Toms Tae Kwon Do (Cam’s Rocket-Radiant Breeze) finished third.

The 3-year-old Maryland Sire Stake finals for August will be held on Thursday (Aug. 27).
