Ft. Washington, MD — Maryland Sire Stakes races were contested on Tuesday (Oct. 6) at Rosecroft Raceway.

The postponed 2-year-old stakes opened the early non-wagering card with the trotting colts and geldings. Speed It (Cam’s Rocket-Hypercast) went gate-to-wire in 2:00.2 for owner/trainer Richard Hans. Jim Morand was in the bike. Speed It closed the season with five wins in seven starts. Sweeten Me Up (CR Renegade) was second.

The Syl King, Jr. trainee Star Rose (You Betcha-Ragland Road) captured her third sire stake series final of the season in 2:00.4 over rival Rock The Game (Cam’s Rocket). Driver Ray Robinson Jr. was content to keep 2-year-old trotting filly Star Rose in the pocket until the last turn, opening up eight lengths on the field in the stretch.

Brian Callahan and Gloria Kinnamon’s homebred Fastestgirlaround (Dontloseyourdayjob-Sandy Calady) has dominated the 2-year-old pacing filly division this season and Tuesday night was no different. Reinsman Frank Milby sent her to the front and never looked back, stopping the clock in 1:58.2 over Mo Power (Capitol Power).

Owner/trainer Richard Hans picked up his second win of the night with What I Say Goes (Cam’s Rocket-Look Sunder). Jonathan Roberts guided the 2-year-old pacing colt in the 1:58.4 mile. Winbak Farm’s Steal N Go (Bonnie And Clyde) got up for place.

The 3-year-old card started with the pacing fillies. Driver/trainer Cory Mumford took Helaine’s Firebird (Allie’s Western-Flannel Yankee) back out of the gate, not gaining the front until the three-quarter pole, holding off Jodi’s Sweety by a length in the 1:58.1 mile. Frank Chick owns the filly.

Sean Bier sent Jay Boy (Tsunami-Russian Caviar), leased and trained by Syl King Jr., wire-to-wire in 1:58.3 in the Earl Wagner Memorial for trotting colts and geldings over Ringdangdo (Doggone Yankee).

The Ralph Hayward Memorial for 3-year-old trotting fillies went to Wynnfield Sunset (Doggone Yankee-Wynnfield Molly) over Betcha Ur My Baby (You Betcha) in 1:59.2. Les Givens trains and drives the filly for owner Pam Polk.

The final stake of the season was an early duel between stablemates Toms Typhoon and Toms Tornado, both by Cam’s Rocket and both owned by Thomas Cooke, in the Wayne Smullin Memorial for pacing colts and geldings. In the stretch Toms Typhoon with Roger Plante Jr. in the bike pulled away by six in the 1:52.2 mile. Roger Hans trains both colts.

The Maryland Standardbred Race Fund wants to thank everyone that supported the 2015 stakes and hope to see you next year.
