Maryland Sire Stakes Summer Finals contested at Ocean Downs

Berlin, MD — The first month of stakes action in Maryland concluded with the Maryland Sire Stakes summer finals on Friday (Aug. 2) at Ocean Downs.

In the 3-year-old colt/gelding trot, Perfect Tententen (Straight Up Lindy) trotted the mile in 2:07.3 for owner, trainer and driver Elam Petersheim. Meadow Creek Stables LLC is the breeder.

Bonnie Ben Jamin (Cam’s Rocket) showed her usual skill in the field of five 3-year-old filly pacers, winning by four lengths over Romantic Escape for owner Brian Emerson. Judy Welty trains and Jim Morand was the driver in 1:58.2.

In their usual fashion, Fire Cracker Freddy (Cam’s Rocket) and his stablemate Yippi Ki Yeah were one–two at the wire in the 3-year-old colt pace/ The time for the mile was 1:55.2. Frank Milby drove for owner/trainer /breeder Roger Hans.

This week’s 2-year-old winners were trotting filly Ruby Rayne (Doggone Yankee), owned by Dale Massey and trained, driven and bred by William Long, stopping the clock in 2:08.2.

Doc Banning (You Betcha), the 2-year-old colt trotter, is owned by Sharon Roberts, trained by W. Bib Roberts and driven by Jonathan Roberts. Tom and Linda Winebrener were the breeders.

Michael Hans is the owner and breeder of 2-year-old filly pacer Coming Out On Top (Cam’s Rocket). Richard Hans is the trainer and Jim Morand was the reinsman for the 2:06.3 mile.

The 2-year-old colt pacer was Spinout (Spun Out). Gary Humphreys is the owner and co-breeder along with Dan Myer. William Long was in the bike giving him the driving double. Spinout paced his mile in 2:04.3.

Maryland Standardbred Fund (foaled stakes) return to the Casino at Ocean Downs on Aug. 12 and 15.
