Maryland Sires Stakes action held Sunday at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — Maryland Sires Stakes action for 3-year-old pacers and trotters got underway on Sunday night (April 25) at Rosecroft and the favorites did not let down their supporters.

There were two divisions for filly pacers and Madisonsallin ($2.40) took the lead past the quarter and never looked back in 1:55.2, defeating a much improved Samantha’s All In and Wowie Zowie. The daughter of Rusty’s All In is now 6-for-11 lifetime and 2-for-2 in 2021. Eddie Davis Jr. controlled the throttle for owner Pamela Wagner and trainer John Wagner.

The second $7,000 preliminary was a non-betting race held before the card started and Trump Change and Roger Plante Jr. won a thrilling four horse photo over pacesetter Rockin Remi, Ella’s A Treat, and KJ Katherine in 1:57. It was the second win in nine starts this year for the Rusty’s All In offspring who did not race at two for owner John Bosch and trainer Lewis Nunes.

Sophomore trotting colt Funnyfunnyriddle ($2.20) and Jim Morand held off a stubborn K J Wallace as the two traded the lead three different times in the final quarter before Morand’s charge eased away for a 3-3/4 length win. Funnyfunnyriddle is owned by Nanticoke Racing Inc., Joseph Fonte and breeder Jim Magno. The Lockkeeper gelding is now 6-for-10 lifetime and 2-for-3 in 2021.

Four different pacers shined as 2-year-olds last year, and those four were as close to a superfecta lock Sunday night as you could get and Harveys All In ($4.00) wired the field in 1:54.4 for John Wagner. KO Master was second and Real Made, the fall stakes winner, was third. The winner, a son of Rusty’s All In, has been on the board in all 10 starts lifetime and won for the fourth time.

The undisputed queen of the sophomore trotters is Pride Of Windswept. After winning seven of eight in her freshman campaign, Corey Callahan put his filly right on the engine and she delivered a professional 1:59 win in a non-betting division. Call Me Keeper was second and Paislees Future was third. John and Sarah Swart own the Charlie De Vie filly and she is conditioned by Shaun Callahan.

Timmy Offutt, Trae Porter, Russell Foster, and Eddie Davis Jr. had driving doubles on the card while Jason Walters and Wagner had training doubles.

Wednesday night’s 50-cent Pick-5 with an industry low 12 percent takeout will offer a $2,906 carryover with post time set for 7:15 p.m.
