Massachusetts Sire Stakes contested at Plainridge

Marlborough, MA — Some $20,000 in purse money was raced for at Plainridge Racecourse on Monday (Sept. 30) in four races of the Massachusetts Sire Stakes program.

In the race for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers, trainer Mike Perpall’s Murphy’s Cyclone outlasted Denver Artist to the wire in a swift 1:56.3. The winner was driven by Ralph Anderson. Both horsemen have been in superb winning form as Perpall’s training percentage has climbed over the .400 mark while Anderson is the track’s fifth leading driver.

In the colt trotting event, Anderson drove CBF Dart to the winner’s circle with a burst of speed nearing the wire to defeat his threee other rivals in 2:01.1.

The 3-year-old filly pace race was won by Dash Of Rose who bested Misty Moon by a neck in 1:58.1 with David Ingraham in the bike.

Royalty Free was uncontested in the filly trot race with Jimmy Whittemore having clear sailing on the way to a 2:00.2 vctory.
