Massachusetts Standardbreds receive favorable increases

Plainville, MA — On the recommendation of the Massachusetts Horse Racing Committee, the commissioners of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted 5-0 in favor to approve a revised allocation of funds from the Race Horse Development Fund that saw the Standardbred program get an additional five percent for purses and breeding.

From the money provided from the Race Horse Development Fund:

Eighty percent of the funds shall be allocated to purses and split 70 percent for Standardbreds and 30 percent for Thoroughbreds.

Sixteen percent of the funds shall be allocated for breeding and be split 70 percent for Standardbreds and 30 percent for Thoroughbreds.

Four percent of the funds shall be allocated to health and pensions and be split 40 percent for Standardbreds and 60 percent for Thoroughbreds.

The vote was taken during the commission meeting on Thursday (Aug. 27) and the changes took effect at that time.
