McGwire Sowers drives a grand slam at Monticello

Monticello, N.Y. – After overseeing the family’s racing operation in Maine, McGwire Sowers returned to Monticello Raceway on Thursday (June 17) and drove four winners on the 10-race card.

Sowers wasted no time and won the first race aboard Donau (1:55.3, $5.20) in a tight photo over Mister Truth to lower his seasonal mark.  His next win blew up the tote board with the 24-1 Beach Blast ($50.50) for trainer Greg Decker, who narrowly defeated Burning Desire in 1:57.2. The 10-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere earned his third win of the season.

The triple came with My Last Chance (1:56.2, $19.40), who notched his first win of the season. Sowers’ last win came aboard Midnight Shark, who scored a 3-1/2 length over Our Regal Ideal N in 1:57 and returned $5.70 for win.

Also on the card, Bo Sowers had a training triple, Rahiem Strong had a training double, and driver Jim Taggart Jr. had a driving double.
