Ontario, ON — The father and son team of Gregg and Doug McNair of Guelph, Ontario, made history in the Ontario Sires Stakes program’s recently concluded 2014 season. Gregg topped the leader board as the program’s top trainer, taking home the Johnston Cup, while his son was the leading OSS driver, winning the Lampman Cup.

The McNairs are the first father/son duo to sweep the training and driving titles since the Lampman and Johnston Cups were introduced. The former is named for the late Jim Lampman, a savvy publicist on the Ontario Jockey Club circuit for many years, while the Johnston Cup is in memory of Bruce Johnston, the longtime publisher of the Canadian Sportsman magazine.

This marked the third straight Johnston Cup for Gregg whose colts and fillies made 143 OSS starts this season and earned $824,260. He finished with 337 total points. Bob McIntosh, a seven-time Johnston Cup winner, finished second with 278 points while John Bax took third with 262.

This marks the first Lampman Cup victory for Doug McNair who edged out two time winner Trevor Henry 491 points to 457. Sylvain Filion, the top OSS driver during the past two seasons, finished third.

The leading money winner for the McNairs in the 2014 OSS was the 3-year-old pacing colt Three Of Clubs who earned a total of 251,908 in the OSS and currently sits with $ 451,981 on his card lifetime. The Mach Three colt is co-owned by Gregg, legendary horseman Keith Waples of Durham and Tony Lawrence of Hanover, Ontario.

With Doug in the sulky, Three Of Clubs concluded his OSS career with a victory in the C$250,000 OSS Super Final earlier this month at Mohawk and then shipped to Maywood Park in Chicago where he finished third in the Windy City Pace last weekend.
