Meadowlands and its horsemen raise more than $30,000 for fire victims

East Rutherford, NJ — The Meadowlands and its horsemen raised a total of $31,368.58 to benefit the victims of the Classy Lane Training Centre fire in Puslinch, Ontario that claimed the lives of 43 horses on Jan. 4.

The money was raised in January when the track invited its horsemen to pledge a percentage of their on-track earnings to the cause. As usual, the industry exceeded expectations by also sending in donations by the thousands.

“This is every horseperson’s absolute worst nightmare,” said Jason M. Settlemoir, General Manager and CEO of Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. “Many thanks to Jennifer Bongiorno here at the Meadowlands for taking the lead on this fundraiser and a huge ‘thank you’ must go out to the dozens of horsepeople that opened their wallets to help their fellow competitors in their time of need.”
