Meadowlands simulcast is strong Down Under

from the Meadowlands Media Relations Department

East Rutherford, NJ — Meadowlands harness racing has been well received by Down Under bettors through the first three weeks of its simulcast to Australia and New Zealand.

A total of $1,646,139 has been wagered on the six cards, which began on Feb. 3. Meadowlands’ Thursday and Saturday races are offered on a separate pool basis and air Friday and Sunday mornings, respectively, on Sky Racing2. Wagering on the Meadowlands Thursday programs, simulcast to both Australia and New Zealand, has averaged $338,000 while the Saturday programs, which are only simulcast to Australia, have averaged $210,633.

“We’re very encouraged with the early Down Under results so far,” said assistant vice president of racing development and distribution Alex Dadoyan. “There is a strong harness racing following in Australia and New Zealand and the Meadowlands has a very strong brand overseas.

“Hopefully we can continue to grow our distribution to international markets with the eventual goal being common pool wagering which adds liquidity and value for all bettors.”
