Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

RACING SCHEDULE
We are now in our winter three-day-per-week racing schedule, Wednesday through Friday afternoons at 12:45 p.m. This schedule will remain in place through the end of March.

20-CENT SUPERS
With the new season comes a change in our wagering format. Our Superfecta wager will increase from a 10-cent minimum to a 20-cent wager.

50-CENT-FIVES
The Pick-5 and Pentafecta wagers will now increase to a 50-cent minimum, starting Wednesday (Jan. 4). The Pentafecta, formerly called the Super Hi-5, will now be offered three times each day.

CARRYOVERS?
It is our hope that the new wagering format will bring with it an increased chance of carryovers during the 2023 season. There will still be a consolation payoff in the Pick-5, but if a Pick-4 or Pentafecta isn’t hit, the entire net pool will carry over.

NEW NAMES
Trainer Jacob Fox picked up three wins last week, in just his second week racing at The Meadows after arriving from Hoosier Park. Luke Hanners, who had not appeared at The Meadows in 2022, raced two horses on the final day of the meet.

2022 vs. 2021
Among Meadows regulars, no one finished the year stronger than Dirk Simpson, who raised his UTR from .240 to .280 during the final three months of the year. Simpson, who recorded 54 wins as a trainer in 2021, finished 2022 with 70 wins. Among drivers, Hunter Myers jumped from 96 wins in 2021 to 190 in 2022. Ridge Warren, who recorded 83 wins during his first full year at The Meadows in ’21, finished the year strong with a total of 155 local wins. Jeremy Indof finished his career-best season with 138 local wins in 2022, compared to 72 the previous year. Overall, including dead-heat wins, The Meadows saw 2,124 horses and drivers reach the winner’s circle in 2022 in 181 race cards.
