Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA – Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

This week will feature our regular fall schedule, with racing on Wednesday (Nov. 8), Thursday (Nov. 9) and Friday (Nov. 10) afternoons, all at 12:45.

WEDNESDAY FEATURE

Wednesday afternoon’s feature race will be a $21,200 Open Trot featuring a full field of nine. Three horses – Stay Close, Romanee Blue Chip and Swan Legacy – were all winners in lower levels last week, while track record holder Jeffery P makes his second start after missing more than a year. Joey, a winner in his last start in 1:52.2, took 2+ months off following that win and returns after winning a qualifier. The race is carded as the sixth on the Wednesday afternoon program.

FAST START FOR FOX

Trainer Jacob Fox made his presence known last week with a win and a second place finish in four races entered at The Meadows. Fox spent last winter in Western Pennsylvania before returning to Hoosier Park in the spring. He is currently splitting time between Hoosier and The Meadows.

TWO GENERATIONS, THREE ENTRIES

Last week’s NW1 Trot race at The Meadows had an unusual yet familiar – or familial – look to it. The Rickert family had three entries from three stables. Hoye Rickert entered homebred Molly Pitcher, who finished seventh in the field, while son Kris trained and drove Dorferd, the fifth place finisher. The winner of the race was Crazy Holiday, trained by Hoye’s other son, Andy. Another Meadows-based family often ends up with multiple horses in the same race, as trainer Gary Johnston often races against sons Aaron and Shawn. Perhaps the Rickerts and Johnstons will all end up in the same race at some point this fall.
