Meadows Monday Memo

Washington, PA — Here is this week’s Meadows Monday Memo.

SCHEDULE CHANGE THIS WEEK
The Meadows will be racing three days this week, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 12:45 p.m. The regular Friday evening card will not be held, due to a concert. Friday racing will resume next week.

ADIOS ELIMS SET FOR SATURDAY
The entry box closes on Wednesday morning (July 17) at 9 a.m. for the 58th edition of the Delvin Miller Adios Pace, as elimination races will be the featured events on the Saturday (July 20) card. Some of next year’s Adios hopefuls will also be on display Saturday, with the first round of Pennsylvania Sire Stake action for 2-year-old colt pacers, along with PA Stallion Series stakes, featured on the undercard.

FIGHTING FOR WINS
Fighting Evil, a 6-year-old mare by Sweet Lou, has had quite the turnaround this season since joining the Jack Smith Stable. As a 5-year-old last year, she won two of 19 races with $18,480 in earnings and a mark of 1:53. This year it’s been quite a different story. She has won seven of 15 starts, lowered her mark to 1:50.4, and has banked $67,379 so far. Fighting Evil will leave from post three on Wednesday (July 17) in the F&M Open Pace.

TRIO OF WINS, DRIVERS
Trainer Dirk Simpson spread the wealth around on Saturday (July 13) at The Meadows. The veteran trainer recorded three wins on the card, with three different catch-drivers. Simpson won the fourth race with Twenty Grand, driven by Justin Walters, then followed with a win in the fifth with Lyons Coppertop, for driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr. Two races later, Chief Mate won with Brady Brown at the lines. Simpson is in fourth place at The Meadows this season in wins, with 49.
