East Rutherford, NJ — The 2-year-old fillies took center stage in six elimination races for the Merrie Annabelle trot and Sweetheart pace on Thursday night (July 24) at the Meadowlands.
Honorable Daughter coasted to a 1:55.4 victory in race six, the fastest of four $20,000 Merrie Annabelle eliminations. Pleasing Lady and Winlite also moved on to the $523,600 final on July 31. Trained by Larry Remmen, Honorable Daughter (Malabar Man-Honorable Mother) is now a perfect four-for-four in her career. She also annexed the Historic-Acorn Stakes and a New York Sire Stakes event this season.
Dover Miss (Andover Hall-Miss Athens) took the first Merrie Annabelle split over Neith’s Song in 1:57.1, trotting a final panel of :28.1 for driver Mike Lachance and trainer Ron Gurfein.
Seaside (Yankee Glide-Blue Skys Again) was also clocked in 1:57.1 as she rebounded from miscues in her last two starts to take the second elimination for David Miller and Jonas Czernyson. The favorite, Gabbys Dream, finished second off a pocket trip.
Broadway Schooner (Broadway Hall-Pine Schooner) wired the field in 1:56.1 in the third split. John Campbell steered the homebred filly to her first career win for his brother, Jim Campbell, and owners Arlene and Jules Siegel. Runner-up I Wanted Wings and third-place finisher Margarita Momma also advanced to the Merrie Annabelle final.
Trainer Ross Croghan conditioned both winners in the $20,000 Sweetheart eliminations for pacing fillies. Girls Nite Out (John Campbell) fended off Pedigree Snob by a neck in 1:51.4, while her stablemate Mintjulep Bluechip (Eric Goodell) held on for a nose tally over Shes Everything in 1:55.1.
Girls Nite Out (Four Starzzz Shark-Before Sunrise) has now won two of four starts, while Mintjulep Bluechip (Bettor’s Delight-BJ’s Sunshine) is two-for-two.
