Merrie Annabelle, Sweetheart fields set

East Rutherford, NJ — The 2-year-old fillies took center stage in six elimination races for the Merrie Annabelle trot and Sweetheart pace on Thursday night (July 24) at the Meadowlands.

Honorable Daughter and John Campbell won the fastest Merrie Annabelle elimination with a 1:55.4 clocking.

Honorable Daughter coasted to a 1:55.4 victory in race six, the fastest of four $20,000 Merrie Annabelle eliminations. Pleasing Lady and Winlite also moved on to the $523,600 final on July 31. Trained by Larry Remmen, Honorable Daughter (Malabar Man-Honorable Mother) is now a perfect four-for-four in her career. She also annexed the Historic-Acorn Stakes and a New York Sire Stakes event this season.

Dover Miss (Andover Hall-Miss Athens) took the first Merrie Annabelle split over Neith’s Song in 1:57.1, trotting a final panel of :28.1 for driver Mike Lachance and trainer Ron Gurfein.

Seaside (Yankee Glide-Blue Skys Again) was also clocked in 1:57.1 as she rebounded from miscues in her last two starts to take the second elimination for David Miller and Jonas Czernyson. The favorite, Gabbys Dream, finished second off a pocket trip.

Broadway Schooner (Broadway Hall-Pine Schooner) wired the field in 1:56.1 in the third split. John Campbell steered the homebred filly to her first career win for his brother, Jim Campbell, and owners Arlene and Jules Siegel. Runner-up I Wanted Wings and third-place finisher Margarita Momma also advanced to the Merrie Annabelle final.

Girls Nite Out (John Campbell) scored in 1:51.4 in her Sweetheart elimination.

Trainer Ross Croghan conditioned both winners in the $20,000 Sweetheart eliminations for pacing fillies. Girls Nite Out (John Campbell) fended off Pedigree Snob by a neck in 1:51.4, while her stablemate Mintjulep Bluechip (Eric Goodell) held on for a nose tally over Shes Everything in 1:55.1.

Girls Nite Out (Four Starzzz Shark-Before Sunrise) has now won two of four starts, while Mintjulep Bluechip (Bettor’s Delight-BJ’s Sunshine) is two-for-two.

Also advancing to the $431,500 Sweetheart Final on August 1 were Right Right, Twist N Clout, Celebrity Tango, All Or None, Notjustaprettyface and Racing Star.
