MGM Northfield Park to host Ohio Fairs Consolation races on Saturday night, October 29

Northfield, OH — The draw for the inaugural Ohio County Fair Consolation events at MGM Northfield Park is upcoming on Tuesday morning (Oct. 25), for their racing card on Saturday night, October 29.  While the Ohio County Fair Championships have been around for several years, this is the first time Consolations for horses that did not make the County Fair Championships will be contested.

Purses will be $15,000 for the eight consolation races (one division each for two-and-three-year-olds of both gaits and sexes).  Top point earners and/or horses that raced in the Ohio Sires Stakes Championship or the Ohio Fairs Final are ineligible for the main Consolation races.  All other horses that were paid into the Ohio Fairs Final and started in at least one Ohio County Fair are encouraged to enter by 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning (Oct. 25).

The top nine eligible point earners, plus one also eligible, will be drawn into race in each division.  A division must have at least six eligible entrants (no more than two per owner or trainer) in order to fill. Horses must show at least one clean line within MGM Northfield’s qualifying standards within 45-days of October 29. There is no entry fee for this event.

There will also be $10,000 Consolation II events (if there are enough entries to fill) for horses that don’t make the main Consolation, or weren’t paid into the Ohio Fairs Final. The Consolation II races are open to any horse that started in an Ohio Fair Stakes event in 2022 — again excluding top point earners and starters in the Ohio Sires Stakes Final or Fair Final.
