Michigan State Representatives attend horsemen’s party

from the Fowlerville (Mich.) Horsemen’s Committee

Fowlerville, MI — The fifth annual Fowlerville Horsemen’s Party was honored by the presence of three Michigan State Representatives, Cindy Denby, Mike Huckelbury, and Bill Rogers — and Joe Hune, who is a candidate for the Michigan Senate.

We are honored that these people took time from their busy day to have dinner with us and listen to the concerns of our industry. Cindy Denby and Mike Huckelbury are co-chairs of the Equine Caucus that is taking the racing industry’s concerns by the horns. Lansing leaders have shown support for our industry, our jobs, and our family business. We thank them for their continued efforts.

The evening event included a live auction, with Brett Boyd making the call. About 100 horsemen attended, having pizza, pasta, salad and homemade desserts.

The winning ticket drawn for the Pennsbury jog cart was held by Sharon West, who claims she never wins anything. Good luck to the West Stable with its new jog cart.

The funds raised from the party will support the race dates at the Fowlerville, Mich. Fair. Four race dates will be held in June (Gait Training Day), July, August and September, so mark your calendars.

The Fowlerville Horsemen’s Committee is also considering the raising of a flagpole in the infield. A military honors event will take place on the opening day of the 2010 fair, with a new American flag being raised.

The group’s next event will be Gait Colt Training Day on Sunday, June 20, at the Fowlerville Fairgrounds, starting at noon.

Stalls are available, for $5, given to the fairgrounds, and there will be $10 gate fee to be paid to the starter. A potluck dinner will also be held, with those who donate a dish gaining a pass to the event.
