Mildred Williams Series at Pocono Downs on May 21

Wilkes-Barre, PA — The top women drivers in the sport of harness racing will be converging on Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs on Friday night, May 21, for the Mildred Williams International Driving Series.

They’ll not only be displaying their talents on the racetrack but they’ll also be racing for the fight against breast cancer. As has been the case the past several years, the female harness racing drivers will donate their winnings to the charity of the track’s choice. Once again, that charity will be the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure, Northeast Affiliate.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is just one of more than 40 racetracks that will be hosting the 2010 Mildred Williams International Driving Series that helps promote women in harness racing while aiding charities throughout North America. The late Mildred Williams, who passed away at the age of 92 while she was still active with the series, was regarded as “The First Lady of Harness Racing.”

The women drivers who compete donate their purses to the charity of choice while compiling points in the driving series.

Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and the Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association once again will be donating $1,500 each to the Susan G. Komen Foundation For The Cure, Northeast Affiliate, this year’s chosen charity.

All patrons 21 years of age and older attending the May 21 racing card can “Think Pink” while having the opportunity of winning one of nine Rejuven-Esssence Wellness Spa packages. One entry is allowed per patron and all entries must be submitted before the fourth race prior to the drawings following that race.
