Harrington, DE — Eight female drivers came together for a great cause on Thursday (May 17) at Harrington Raceway, as part of the Mildred Williams Driving Series. The series honors its namesake, who was a pioneer for harness racing and one of the sport’s first successful female drivers.

Karen Moore drove Camtasticat to the victory in the Mildred Williams Series.

The ninth race on the card was run as part of the series with driver Karen Moore, a Delaware native, winning with Camtasticat ($43.60) wire-to-wire in 1:58.1. Owned by Beronica Moore for trainer Presley Moore, it was the 8-year-old Camtastic gelding’s first win in three years. Blaster Hanover (Leah Vandervort) was second with Seboomook Warrior (Joey Ayotte) third.

“He hasn’t won in a long time,” said Karen Moore, whose parents own the horse. “We dropped him in class and that always helps.”

The participating women agreed to donate their driving proceeds for the night to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, who had administrators Susan DiMondi and Lois Wilkinson on hand throughout the races accepting donations.

“This was a lot of fun,” said Ann Curran, administrator of the Mildred Williams Driving Series. “It’s great to have events like this for a good cause.”

Drivers came from as far as Canada for the event, which is part of a circuit that has 37 races this year.

Besides Moore, Ayotte and Vandervort, Linda MacDonald, Ann-Karin Larsen, Valerie Warnick, Marie-Claude Auger and Monica Thors all drove in the event.
