Though Milligan’s School had to race from the second tier, he was in front after the 400 meters and stayed on to win the 3,140-meter event (approximately two miles) in 1:55.4f (mile rate). That is a new world record; the old record was 1:56.2f held by Moni Viking, who won the race last year.

The purse for the winner was $175,000.

Milligan’s School was sired by Yankee Glide. He was bred by Joyce and Richard McClelland and after a USA campaign, he was sold to Stefan Melander. Milligan’s School has now raced 112 times and has 30 wins and earnings of $1.9 million.
