Monaco is victorious in GSY Series race

East Rutherford, NJ — The amateur pacers were back in their customary first race slot on Friday night (Oct. 9) at The Meadowlands and this was another exciting, action-packed race.

Four horses vied for the top spot into the first turn and after a swift :26.4 clocking, Scirocco Mistysaid, with Mark Silva holding the lines, took the lead, but paid the price for it. He was able to leave from his outside post and maintain the lead until midway down the stretch. He was collared by the pocket sitter, In The Huddle, with Samuel King in the sulky, near the wire as Captain Cut Throat, with Matt Zuccarello in the bike, tried to squeeze in between them.

King looked confident near the wire but a traffic troubled Lear Seelster, with Marianna Monaco doing the steering, came from out of the clouds to nip King right before the wire. She came home in a fast 27.1 final quarter. She won from an almost impossible spot, tipping three wide into the stretch, near last, and made up five-plus lengths.

The winner is a 5-year-old Mach Three gelding, owned by Chad Lennon and trained by Vincent Stallworth.

The GSY Series will be back next Friday night and the first post is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
