Money still being raised for Historic Track in Sharon Manzi’s memory

by John Manzi, for Historic Track

Goshen, NY — When Sharon (Mrs. John) Manzi passed away after a courageous fight with cancer on Nov. 3, 2012, the family had requested donations to Historic Track in lieu of flowers being sent to the funeral home.

More than two months have transpired and donations are still coming in. At last count the total sent to the National Historic Landmark is $5,715.

“It may not sound like a huge sum to places like the Cancer Society or the American Heart Association, but $5,700 to Historic Track will go a lot farther than it would at any of those research foundations,” noted Bernie White, the president of the Historic Track Board of Directors.

“It’s a great tribute to Mrs. Manzi and to her husband, John, that they’d use a personal tragedy to do something positive for the sport that they have dedicated their lives to. Everyone knows that Historic Track has always been dear to their hearts and with assistance the Board can continue the Historic Landmark for generations to come.”

Historic Track, like the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, depends greatly on fundraisers and donations to subsist. Both entities work diligently to continue the traditions that made Goshen, N.Y., the “Cradle of the Trotter.”

“I’m told there were many who donated to Historic Track in Mrs. Manzi’s name, but if there are some who would still like to send in a donation the address is 44 Park Place, Goshen, NY 10924,” White added.
