More State Fair Stakes raced at Tioga

Nichols, NY — Eight divisions of New York State Fair Stakes were held on Sunday afternoon (August 13) at Tioga Downs with three divisions for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers and five divisions for three-year-old filly pacers.

Jeff Gregory was the man of the day, winning four on the afternoon, while Ron Pierce and Stephane Bouchard each posted driving doubles on the 11 race card.

Rita J and Ron Pierce posted the fastest mile of the afternoon for the three-year-old filly pacers and lowered the track record for that class with a mile timed in 1:53.2. The three-year-old daughter of Bettor’s Delight is owned by Kenneth Jacobs of Baldwinsville, New York and is trained by Linda Toscano.

Ecstatic went postward in her first race back since taking on the top older trotting mares in the $250,000 Breeders Crown two weeks ago. David Miller sent the five-year-old daughter of Self Possessed right to the front and never looked back en route to a two and a half length victory in 1:56.4.

Cannae Cindy and Jeff Gregory posted an impressive victory leaving from post position nine for trainer Ed Lohmeyer. The three-year old daughter of Bettor’s Delight was hung to the quarter pole in :28.1 but was never affected, posting a final quarter timed in :28.2 to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.3.

Tioga Downs will resume live racing from Nichols, New York on Monday, August 14, with a post time of 6:50 p.m.
