Morgan Shark wins Fox Stake

Columbus, OH — Morgan Shark rallied in the stretch to win the $64,120 Fox Stake for 2-year-old pacing colts on Saturday (Aug. 22) at the Indiana State Fair.

Travis Seekman was in the bike for trainer Joe Seekman as the son of Four Starzzz Shark-Four Starzzzz Pass tripped the timer in a lifetime best 1:52.4. The winner edged Perrito Caliente (Dave Palone) by a half-length, with Allthatgltrsisgold (Dave Magee) a length back in third.

Morgan Shark has won three of his four lifetime starts, with earnings of $44,226. He is owned by Sawgrass Farms LLC.

Co-featured on the Saturday program at Indianapolis was the $50,226 Horseman Stake-Ralph Wilfong Trot for 2-year-olds. Break The Bank K brushed to the lead heading to the :58.2 half-mile marker and never looked back in reaching the finish line in 1:56.3. Dave Palone was in the bike for trainer Rich Gillock as the Revenue S-American Misty colt drew off in the stretch for a four length victory over Classic Son (Marcus Miller). Cool Colby (Jim Dailey) finished third.

Break The Bank K is owned by Robert Key. The victory was his fourth in six lifetime tries, lifting his 2009 bankroll to $122,973.

Four Horseman events for 3-year-old pacers and trotters of both sexes were also contested. These races were won by:

  • Ultimate Velocity ($31,340 3-year-old filly pace); owners Kenneth Stohler and Trent Stohler Stable/trainer-driver Trent Stohler; 1:56.1;
  • Gordieisanartist ($33,100 3-year-old colt pace); owner Dean Davis/trainer Kurt Sugg/driver Duke Sugg; 1:55.1;
  • Southwind Wasabi ($36,840 3-year-old filly trot); owners Chuck Sylvester, Neal Goldman, Margaret Dey and Jerry Silva/trainer Chuck Sylvester/driver Peter Wrenn; 1:56; and
  • Magic Carpet Ride ($39,206 3-year-old colt trot); owner Cowboyland Aalborg/trainer Dewayne Minor/driver Peter Wrenn; 1:55.3

Four Hoosier Stakes events for 2-year-old pacers and trotters of both sexes rounded out the card. These races were won by:

  • Bluebird Regal ($24,928 2-year-old filly pace); owners Paul and Phillip Svehla/trainer-driver Dan Shetler; 1:55.1;
  • Extended Forecast ($26,006 2-year-old colt pace); owner Joe Seekman Racing Stable/trainer Joe Seekman/driver Travis Seekman; 1:54.1;
  • Call Me Ching ($23,278 2-year-old filly trot); owners Vaun Warner and Gregory Culley/trainer John Merkel/driver Dan Shetler; 2:01.2; and
  • Call The Warden ($25,676 2-year-old colt trot); owners Laura Baker, Thomas York Jr., James Morrow and Kathleen Morrow/trainer Jim Arledge/driver Chip Noble; 1:59.1
