Morning line odds released for first Little Brown Jug Future Wager

by Tom White, publicity director, the Little Brown Jug

Delaware, OH — Wagering on the first of two Little Brown Jug future wagering pools will get underway at 12 noon on Thursday, August 26, at racetracks and internet sites throughout North America and Europe. Future wagering will be offered through 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 29.

The future wager allows fans to bet early on all 3-year-olds. The minimum bet is $2.00 and all future wagers are win betting only. Every 3-year-old pacer in North America is included in the Jug Field because if a colt wins the Cane Pace he can be supplemented into the $650,000 (est.) Little Brown Jug, to be raced on Thursday, September 23. Eliminations for the Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway will be Saturday, August 28, and the Cane Pace Final is on September 6. The Field is rated at 15-1 in the morning line.

Battle of the Brandywine winner Rock N Roll Heaven (6-1) is the morning line favorite in the first future Jug pool. Bruce Saunders trains Rock N Roll Heaven for owner Frank Bellino of Bronxville, N.Y. The colt has seven wins in 12 starts and earnings of more than $900,000 this season. Despite the sloppy conditions, Rock N Roll Heaven set the stakes record of 1:48.4 in beating One More Laugh and We Will See in the Battle of the Brandywine.

Meadowlands Pace champion One More Laugh is next at odds of (8-1). Ray Schnittker trains One More Laugh for owners Mathias Meinzinger and Jerry Silva of New York and Schnittker. He was driven by Tim Tetrick.

Next in the morning line are Delmarvalous and Rockin Image, both at odds of 10-1.

“This is the most wide-open Jug we’ve had in years,” said Jason Settlemoir, simulcast coordinator. “There are so many top 3-year-olds that it is very difficult to separate them and this should make for interesting future wagers.”

Complete past performance lines for all Jug eligibles will be available free of charge on the Little Brown Jug web site: www.littlebrownjug.com.

A team of racing analysts and handicappers selected the group of 23 colts and geldings. Each colt was then assigned odds based on the selection order. The horses in each of the two future wagering pools will be listed in alphabetical order.

The second future wagering pool will be from Sunday, September 19 through Wednesday, September 22, the first three afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware County Fair.

“This is the fifth year our fans at the track in Delaware will have the opportunity to place wagers at the regular betting windows throughout the fairgrounds,” said Phil Terry, general manager and director of marketing.

Last year Jug champion Well Said paid $5.80 in the first pool; $6.60 in the second pool; and $6.80 in the final.
