Grand Circuit Report: Week of August 22, 2010

This Week: Indiana Downs Grand Circuit, Indiana Downs, Shelbyville, Indiana

Schedule of Events: Indiana Downs will feature Grand Circuit racing on Wednesday, August 25, with the $161,800 Kentuckiana Stallion Management for 2-year-old filly trotters and the $50,000 Circle City for 2-year-old colt trotters. Indiana Sires Stakes action will also be on tap that day with 11 divisions, each for $40,000, on the lucrative card.

Last time: The Grand Circuit was in three different locales last week – the Illinois State Fair in Springfield, the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis and Harrah’s Chester in Pennsylvania.

At Springfield, Travis Seekman and Brandon Simpson shared the driving honors as each piloted a pair of winners in Review Stakes action. Seekman was behind Queen Jane in the $15,000 2-year-old filly trot and Ellamakailey in the $15,000 3-year-old filly pace, while Simpson made it to victory lane behind Ax Man in the $27,500 2-year-old colt trot and Arts Fav’ Won in the $15,000 3-year-old colt pace.

Rick Farrington and Dan Shetler each piloted a pair of winners in Indianapolis. Farrington won the $23,237 Hoosier Stakes 2-year-old colt trot with Roydon and a $19,508 division of the Horseman Stakes 3-year-old filly pace with Baby M C. Shetler steered Mo Muscles home in a $21,449 Horseman Stakes 3-year-old colt trot division and Tressa in the other $19,508 split of the Horseman Stakes 3-year-old filly pace.

John Campbell and Tim Tetrick posted hat tricks on the Sunday (August 22) Grand Circuit card at Harrah’s Chester. Campbell won the $500,000 Colonial for 3-year-old colt trotters with Lucky Chucky, the $200,000 Colonial Consolation I with Pilgrims Chuckie and the $75,000 Valley Forge Consolation II for 3-year-old filly pacers with Cannae Cammie. Tetrick won the $350,000 Valley Forge with Put On A Show, the $150,000 Valley Forge Consolation I with Northwest Hanover and the $100,000 Colonial Consolation II with Coco Lindy.

Grand Circuit Driving Standings: Tim Tetrick has extended his lead in the Grand Circuit driving standings as he now has 15 victories in 2010. Jim Morrill, Jr. is in second place with 11 winners. John Campbell, David Miller and Brian Sears are tied for third place, with 10 victories apiece. Yannick Gingras checks in sixth with nine winners. Ron Pierce is seventh with eight victories to his credit. Dave Palone holds down eighth place with seven triumphs. George Brennan is ninth with six winners. Mike Lachance, Ray Schnittker and Brandon Simpson are tied for tenth place, each with five winning drives.

Looking ahead: Grand Circuit racing action will resume next week at Mohawk Racetrack in Ontario.
