MSOA, Meadows announce Breast Cancer fundraising event

by Jeff Zidek, for the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association

Washington, PA — The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association, in conjunction with The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, is pleased to announce the third annual Breast Cancer Awareness fundraising event, scheduled for this Saturday night (Oct. 29).

As in past years, the event will benefit the Magee Women’s Hospital Breast Cancer Program. Previous events have resulted in more than $12,000 in donations to the cause.

Two “challenge” races will take place, slated as races three and four on the Saturday night card, which gets underway at 6:55 p.m. The first is for male drivers with under 50 wins at The Meadows this season. The second event is for female drivers, and the purse on each race has been increased to $7,500.

In the men’s race, Odds On BP and driver Tyler Stillings are listed as the 3-1 morning line favorite. In the women’s race, Yankee Elizabeth and Danita Harvey are the top morning line choice at 5-2. However, Danita’s daughter, Nikki, will be leaving from post one with Stilletto. Nikki Harvey has won the women’s race two consecutive years.

Both the racetrack and the MSOA will donate their commissions from money wagered on the race to Magee Women’s Hospital, so the challenge is on to see which group can attract more wagering money from the public.

The MSOA thanks all of the men and women who will be participating, and invites private donations to the cause as well. For more information, please contact the MSOA office at 724.228.3644 or via e-mail at msoa@themsoa.com.
