MSOA names 2009 award winning horses

Meadow Lands, PA — The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association has named its top horses of the 2009 racing season at The Meadows.

Harmony Spring Stable’s Hidden Viggorish was named Horse of The Year after also being named Older Mare Trotter and overall Trotter of the Year. A ten-time winner, the Bill Zendt-trainee took a track record mark of 1:53.2 and banked just under $200,000 on the season.

The season’s top pacing honors went to Jans Luck, who also won Older Mare Pacer of the Year for the Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, the JJK Stables and the M1 Stable. Trained by Ron Burke, Jans Luck won 15 times in 27 starts and banked over $236,000.

Other winners include:

Bill Sanders’ Sand Savage, named the top freshman colt pacer, winning one of 12 but hitting the board nine times and banking just under $92,000, taking a mark of 1:53.1.

Farouche Hanover, the top freshman filly pacer, winning two of six for Randy Bendis, Frank Castelli and Reed Broadway, taking a mark of 1:54.4 in the Catherine Baker Knoll Arden Downs Pace.

Correctamundo, earning top colt trotting honors among freshman, following a 4-for-7 record and a mark of 1:55. Tom Svrcek owns the trotter, who earned more than $95,000.

Liz, owned by Robert Slowey and Carl Konieczny, was the top freshman filly trotter, taking a mark of 1:59.3, winning five times in 12 starts and banking over $62,000.

Martha and Gerald Baluck’s Diego, named top sophomore colt pacer, winning six of 19 and taking a mark of 1:51.4 and earning just under $67,000.

Rembrandt Spur, named top sophomore male trotter after setting a track record and equaling the national season’s record for geldings, trotting in 1:53.3 for owner Roy Davis. Rembrandt Spur earned more than $145,000 in 2009, winning seven times in 18 starts.

My Lady Bonnard, a six-time winner in 21 starts for the Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC, was named the top sophomore filly pacer. She took a mark of 1:52.1 and earned over $152,000.

Caviarforthelady was the top 3-year-old filly trotter, winning three of 15 and taking a mark of 1:55.2 for the Acadia Farms, Inc.

Lookout Hanover, a 1:48.3 winner for Francis Azur, was the top older male pacer, earning more than a quarter of a million dollars with 10 wins in 36 starts.

And finally, Michaelrowyourboat, who established a new all-age trotting standard at The Meadows with a 1:52.3 mile for the Flowing Mineral Farm. This year’s Older Male Trotter of the Year earned over $293,000 with six wins among 27 starts.
