MSOA to hold ‘Owner for a Race’ contest

by Jeff Zidek, for the MSOA

Washington, PA — The Meadows Standardbred Owners Association will hold a special “Owner for a Race” beginning Wednesday night (July 27) and nine lucky fans will walk away with their own “purse money.”

Three fans will have their names selected each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night during the races. Wednesday and Thursday winners must return on Friday night. All nine will then head to the winner’s circle on Friday night for a “post position” draw, where they will be paired with a horse in the designated race.

The MSOA will then put up a “purse.” The winning honorary owner will get $500, while second place will be worth $250. Dividing it up like a $1,000 purse, third place will get $120, while fourth gets $80 and fifth is worth $50. So that no one leaves empty-handed, those whose horses finish sixth through ninth will each get $25, for a total of $1,100 to the lucky fans.

Please note that current USTA members are not eligible to enter.

The owners group will have a table set up throughout the remainder of Grand Circuit week offering horse ownership information to potential newcomers to the sport.
